About this Campaign
Ars Biotechnica, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was created to introduce high school students to synthetic biology through online content and team-based learning. We're currently working with teachers and students in Fredrick, MD to set up and run several high school iGEM team. The International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) competition is an annual event in which teams of high school and college students compete to design and engineer microbes which benefit the environment and society. In the process, the students learn the fundamentals of molecular biology, biosafety, scientific method, and peer-to-peer collaboration. To form a team and compete in iGEM, we need funds to buy critical reagents and supplies. The students also need funds to travel to and compete in the competition, which will be held in Boston, MA later this year.Check out the team fundraising sites to learn what each of the groups are up to.
- The Tuscarora High School Bioengineering Club is well on their way to developing a cellulose fiber that will help protect oysters from the deadly disease, dermo.
- The Middletown High School Bioengineering Club has developed a plan to help rid beekeepers of the troublesome wax moth.
